DeKUT 2026/2027 First-Year Students Matriculation Ceremony

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology welcomed its 2026/2027 first-year students during the First-Year Students’ Matriculation Ceremony held on Friday, 4th September 2026. The ceremony, presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eng. Peter N. Muchiri, EBS, marked the culmination of the students’ orientation programme and their transition into the University community.
The occasion marked an important milestone in the students’ academic journey as they officially took their place as members of the DeKUT community. A key highlight of the ceremony was the taking of the matriculation pledge, during which the first-year students solemnly declared, under oath, their loyalty to the University and committed themselves to complying with the various guidelines, regulations and policies governing the Institution.
The matriculation ceremony therefore served not only as a formal welcome, but also as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with being a member of the University community. Having completed their orientation, the students are now set to begin their academic programmes and embrace the opportunities and experiences that come with university life.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Eng. Peter N. Muchiri, EBS, encouraged the first-year students to approach their academic journey with commitment and a positive attitude. Sharing a valuable lesson on career success, the Vice Chancellor reminded the students that success does not always come from pursuing what one initially desires, but from learning to embrace and excel in the opportunities presented.
“The secret to career success is not necessarily in doing what you love, but loving what you do. Many times, you may not get what you liked, but if you learn to like what you get, you will succeed,” he said.
The Vice Chancellor further urged the students to nurture their chosen programmes, drawing a parallel between commitment and growth. “What you love, you nurture, you cultivate, and it grows. Love your degree programme and you will excel in it,” he added. His message challenged the students to make the most of their time at DeKUT by embracing their programmes, remaining committed to their studies and cultivating the skills and knowledge needed to achieve their aspirations.
As the 2026/2027 first-year students begin this new chapter, the University looks forward to supporting them throughout their academic journey and watching them grow into competent professionals and responsible members of society.
